The Wrost Network's YouTube Channel predates the Wrost Network name by quite some time. Here is a brief history of the channel that eventually became the Wrost Network.
The channel was created in 2014 under Ian's legal name. Ian was roughly 8-9 years old when the channel was created and the very first video was uploaded. The video was a sort of home video of Ian as a child playing outside, shot by his father. The video itself is not available in the Wrost Network's archive.
In 2016, Ian, inspired by gaming YouTubers, started on the path to create content on the platform. He decided to make a video in which he toyed around with Cleverbot Evie, directly inspired by watching the YouTuber, Jacksepticeye's videos on the bot. At this time, before he knew how to officially change the channel's name, he decided to rebrand his channel from his legal name to "Crankster A C M." This was long before he knew what the term "crankster" meant.
You may remember some of the Crankster A C M era, most notably the highest volume of videos produced by the channel in its early days, including the showcase of a Doctor Who Texture Pack for Minecraft and a Garry's Mod sandbox set-up. And who could forget the channel's profile picture, a funny old stock image of an elderly woman flipping the double bird, completely with the watermark of its owner.
After the Crankster A C M era, the channel went mostly dormant as it started to have an identity crisis. Ian didn't want to continue under the name "Crankster A C M." He wanted something more refined. For a while, he resolved to continue as simply "Ian." He also wanted to start making a different style of content. The Crankster A C M era ended in 2020.
In 2021, Ian shifted briefly shifted his focus to Twitch, keeping the YouTube Channel on the backburner. He renamed his channel to "IanTheWrostYouTuber" to facilitate Twitch vods He meant to create an account called "IanTheWorstStreamer," but he misspelled it. He and his friend thought it was funny, so he kept the typo and began streaming as "IanTheWrostStreamer."
It is difficult to explain Ian's motivations around this time, but he decided that he wanted to turn himself into a small network of content creation and entertainment on online platforms, but he also wanted to parallel a television network, but he needed a name that would represent that. He looked toward his brand and created The Wrost Network. He renamed his main channel to reflect the new brand and updated his other channels to follow suit. He abandoned one, known as "Crankster A C M Fan Selected Games," and let it get lost to time. The other, previously called "ACM Channels HQ," was converted to the new "IanTheWrostYouTuber" channel. The Wrost Network main channel became Ian's main streaming platform as he shifted away from Twitch.
Ian also had new ideas for the Wrost Network, including producing short films, original shows, and/or maybe movies.
He also created the Wrost Network Discord server during this time. It is unknown if it existed under a different name.
In 2022, Ian created the Wrost Extras channel for project bloopers and behind the scenes footage for projects that never saw the light of day.
From 2023-2024 the Wrost Network served as a small streaming ground where Ian just streamed games that he wanted to play. It was also during this time period that Ian created the Wrost Network website and acquired the wrostnetwork.net domain. It was also around this time that Ian created the archive and placed all old content within it.
After being mostly dormant with the occasional live broadcast, in 2025, Ian decided to bring content back to the Wrost Network, hoping to post regularly. Unfortunately, so far it's not happening too well with technical difficulties occurring.
The Wrost Network has the goal to produce new original content among our programming blocks, one dedicated to gaming, one dedicated to short films and movies, one dedicated to news, one dedicated to original episodic programming (like TV shows), one dedicated to Public Access (for people who want to share content on the Wrost Network for any reason), and perhaps once the channel grows, an advertising block for various forms of promotional content.
